Each of the solos in this collection has been carefully selected from the most popular of the great orchestral pieces and expertly arranged for the intermediate to advanced cellist with Piano accompaniment. The arranger, Geoffrey Pratley, has included performance notes for each 8 pieces in Great Orchestral Solos For Cello - Book Two includePiano Concerto No . The word “carol” comes from the Greek word horaulein, meaning a circle dance performed to flute music. In the Middle Ages, the English combined circle dances with singing and called them carols. Later, the word carol came to mean a song in which a religious topic is treated in a style that is familiar or festive.

The same thing happens when preparing for auditions: even if the flutist may not know the score completely, he should at least know what is happening during the famous flute solos. A new book fills that need: Orchestral Excerpts for Flute (Theodore Presser), written by Jeanne Baxtresser, principal flute of the New York Philharmonic, with piano.   Baxtresser Orchestral Excerpts. If you do not have this book, you need it. Orchestral excerpts are short excerpts from famous orchestral works. The flute has many solos, and an orchestral excerpt book contains many of those solos. Not only is it a good resource for orchestral auditions, but it is also helpful for sight reading practice.

Great advice. This site is such a good resource and it's Octo - am by Yecheskel Yeshiah Francis; Treat. I love it. Ap - am by Michael O'Gieblyn [ ] opening of Mozart’s Symphony No. 39 is a good Decem - pm by Orchestra Excerpts | Preparing for Auditions (Before you start.

This book provides solos which sounds cool with the flute. I felt that the notation level increases through the book. This means, the book starts with easy solos, and they get harder as you advance. Most of the solos aren't longer than pages. If you are looking for nice and short solos for the flute, this book would be a good choice.

Great condition and quick delivery. Only taking away one star because it was only the piano accompaniment book. I expected the solo flute book to be included, since that is how the item is usually sold. But, I was mainly buying it to replace the piano book that I had lost, so not a big deal, just a little disappointing.
